Profile

LG Chem is a major South Korean chemical company and the parent from which LG Energy Solution, one of the world's largest battery makers, was spun out in 2020. LG Chem retains a central role in the battery economy as a supplier of battery materials.

The company is a significant producer of cathode active materials for lithium-ion batteries, and is expanding cathode and materials capacity, including in North America, to supply cell makers. Its long history in the sector includes supplying the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid EV batteries (for the Chevrolet Volt) through its battery division before the LGES spin-off.

LG Chem is publicly listed and remains a cornerstone of the Korean battery supply chain, spanning materials and its shareholding in LG Energy Solution.
