Profile

Panasonic Energy is the battery arm of Japan's Panasonic, and for years was effectively the sole cell supplier to Tesla. It is one of Japan's last remaining major cell makers and a long-standing pioneer of cylindrical lithium-ion cells.

The company has manufactured Tesla's cylindrical cells since 2017 at Gigafactory Nevada, and is expanding its customer base beyond Tesla, with new supply relationships including Lucid, Subaru, Mazda and Amazon's Zoox. Its cells are typically high-nickel cylindrical (NCA) formats.

Panasonic Energy continues to invest in higher-density cells, including the larger 4680 format, and in new North American manufacturing capacity.
