The Bulletin Board – cylib names a new chairman
cylib brings in a recycling heavyweight as chairman
cylib · Roland Harings
cylib has appointed Roland Harings, the former chief executive of the recycling group Aurubis, as chairman of its Advisory Board.
cylib, the German battery recycling company, has appointed Roland Harings as chairman of its Advisory Board, effective 1 October. It is a notable hire. Harings was chief executive of Aurubis, one of the world’s leading multimetal recyclers, and now leads the metals recycling arm of Elsewedy Electric in Cairo. He brings a career spent building and scaling industrial recycling at exactly the point cylib is trying to do the same.
The timing fits the company’s stage. cylib is ramping up industrial operations at Wernberg-Köblitz in Bavaria and building a hydrometallurgical facility in Dormagen, the move from promising technology to industrial scale, which is where experienced hands matter most. Harings has sat on cylib’s Industry Advisory Council since May 2025, so this is a deepening of an existing relationship rather than a cold appointment.
“A well-functioning circular economy is essential to building a competitive European battery industry,” Harings said, adding that cylib “has the potential and ambition to play an important role in closing the loop on critical raw materials.”
It is the sort of appointment that signals a company getting serious about scale. Worth marking.
