Profile

Battery Council International (BCI) is the leading trade association representing the North American and global battery industry, founded in 1924 and marking its centenary in 2024. It advocates for and educates on energy storage, with a long history rooted in the lead-battery industry.

BCI represents battery manufacturers, suppliers, recyclers and related companies, running member forums, technical divisions, policy advocacy and safety and standards work. It has expanded its focus across chemistries, and leads initiatives such as the Consortium for Lead Battery Leadership in long-duration energy storage, a research collaboration supported by the US Department of Energy involving manufacturers and national laboratories.

As one of the industry's oldest and most established bodies, BCI is a central convening point for the battery sector in North America.
